WelcomeWelcome to the Hume Fogg family. And congratulations! You have at least three reasons to celebrate.
First, you and your child are entering an amazing academic institution. Hume-Fogg has a 100+ year history, starting as Nashville's first public school. The school has evolved from a technical school to now ranking as one of the top public schools in Tennessee and the USA. We are all lucky to be here whether we got here through the feeder school system or (like our family), literally won the lottery! Second, this is a celebratory year. This marks the school's 40th year as a magnet school! Look for more about this including a celebration later this year. And lastly, perhaps most important of all, as of today, you are a proud member of the Hume-Fogg Association (the formal name of our PTO). While there are no dues, no requirements and no mandatory duties to be a member, we'd love you to come to meetings and volunteer if you have the time. Yet, you're a member in good standing regardless. One big mission of the HFA is to build community. Hume-Fogg proudly draws students from around the city and boasts a wonderful downtown campus. However, in some ways these things make gathering difficult (and increasingly more expensive to park). We are kicking off the school year with two parent gatherings, where we hope to meet you all! Tuesday, August 15. 6:30pm – 8pm – The Wedge Pizza Pub ( 2026 Lindell Ave, Nashville, TN 37203). Join us for a short HFA meeting and stay and mingle with the HF community. Friday, August 18. 8:00am – 9:30am (right after carline) Fido (1812 21st Ave S.). Coffee and munchies provided. BYOC (Bring your own conversation) Another way to help the school is, of course, through donations. We annually raise money through our INVEST campaign, which you'll be hearing a lot about over the next few months. Last year we raised more than $85k to provide funding for extras that help keep the teachers and administrators focused on what they do best: educate our children. Last year we bought textbooks, supported professional education programs and even bought a new scoreboard for the athletics department. As a member of the PTO, you have a voice on what we fund. I’ll end this greeting by mentioning one of the HFA’s favorite resources. The Max Harris Fund was set up by HF parents years ago to provide confidential assistance to students with financial need to help cover school-related expenses. Please do not allow cost to prevent your child from participating in any school-related activity, from sports to theater to chess. I look forward to meeting you all soon! Please reach out with any questions. Bob Bernstein |
